Computationally-Efficient Methods for Blind Decision Feedback Equalization of QAM Signals

چکیده
This paper investigates computationally-efficient methods for blind decision feedback equalization (DFE) that reduce the complexity and power requirements of blind equalization algorithms while maintaining their steady-state characteristics for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals. These include the power-of-two error (POT), selective coefficient update (SCU), and frequency-domain block (FDB) methods. A novel radius-directed stop-and-go (RSG) method is introduced, which selectively adjusts the equalizer tap coefficients based on the equalizer output radius. In addition, a new activation/deactivation method based on the equalizer output radius is utilized to control the feedback equalizer (FBE) of the DFEs. Simulation studies and analysis are provided for empirically derived cable and microwave channels and Ricean fading channels.

An efficient algorithm for Decision Feedback Blind Equalization of QAM Signals
We propose a symbol-based decision algorithm for blind equalization of quadrature amplitude modulation signals. It jointly update the feedforward and feedback filters of a decision feedback equalizer and performs similarly to a supervised adaptive algorithm, such as the normalized least meansquares algorithm. Besides presenting strategies to speed up its convergence, we provide sufficient condi...
متن کاملImproved Blind Decision Feedback Equalizer with Self-Adapted Structure for High Order QAM signals
This paper brings some noticeable improvements to a blind decison feedback equalizer recently introduced and mainly characterized by its self-adapted structure. In its starting-up mode, this equalizer is linear and recursive and controlled by a whitening criterion for the recursive part and the Godard criterion for the transversal one. However, in the case of high order QAM signals, the whole p...
متن کاملSquare contour algorithm for blind equalization of QAM signals
A new distance-adjusted approach is proposed in which static square contours are defined around an estimated symbol in a QAM constellation, which create regions that correspond to fixed step sizes and weighting factors. As a result, the equalizer tap adjustment consists of a linearly weighted sum of adaptation criteria that is scaled by a variable step size. This approach is the basis of two ne...
متن کاملA regional multimodulus algorithm for blind equalization of QAM signals: Introduction and steady-state analysis
It is well-known that constant-modulus-based algorithms present a large mean-square error for high-order quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals, which may damage the switching to decision-directed-based algorithms. In this paper, we introduce a regional multimodulus algorithm for blind equalization of QAM signals that performs similarly to the supervised normalized least-mean-squares (NL...
متن کاملA blind adaptation algorithm for decision feedback equalization for dual-mode CAP-QAM reception
− This paper introduces an algorithm for blind adaptation of decision feedback equalizers (DFE), which is applied for equalization in the passband domain. The transmission scheme, which is assumed to be unknown at the receiver side, can either be carrierless amplitude/phase (CAP) modulation or quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM). As the input signal of the passband equalizer is real-valued, t...
